History

Armenia debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 with the song “Without Your Love” performed by André. Armenia had never entered the competition before, therefore it had to compete in the semi final. André was the first performer of the semi-finals. The song reached the final of the contest on Saturday 20 May 2006 and gave Armenia a successful debut coming in 8th position.
Having reached the top ten in the final, Armenia didn’t have to compete in the semi-final of the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest and automatically reached the final on 12 May performing 23rd of the 24 finalists and came 8th again.
Armenia was one of only three countries that had always placed in the top ten since the introduction of the semi-finals. This record was broken at the 2011 contest, when Emmy and the song Boom Boom failed to qualify from the first semi-final by only one point.
On 7 March 2012, Armenia announced that it would be withdrawing from the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, because of security concerns.

2006

Armenia’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 was chosen by their broadcaster, ARMTV, who decided that the popular singer André would represent the country with the song “Without Your Love”. The song was written by Armen Martirosyan and arranged by Ara Torosyan.
André was born in the city of Stepanakert, in Nagorno-Karabakh. André attended formal music lessons from the age of 6 when he took up piano classes at the Komitas School of Music in Stepanakert. After studying for three years André wrote his first song “Prayer”. André has participated in the festivals Voice of Asia, Golden Skif, Shanghai festival, and Championship of Performing Arts. He has twice been awarded the title of Armenian singer of the year.
Armenia placed sixth with 150 points in the semifinal, and came eighth with 129 points in the final.

lyrics

Drumming hearts
And your silent words of love
They still remain
In the shades of night
Will you go?
Will you ever save my storming soul?
I need to know

Should I live, should I die
Without your love?
Should I smile, should I cry
Without your love?
Should I fall, should I fly
Without your love?
All I can is only living for you
Breathing for you

What I lose, what I find
Without your love?
What I say, what I hide
Without your love?
What I have in my mind
Without your love?
Tell me what I have to do?
Since I love you

Fly with me
Take my wings and dream away
The stars will lead
To the heavens’ way
One’s for sure
There’s a thousand ways
To say goodbye
What you decide?

Should I live, should I die
Without your love?
Should I smile, should I cry
Without your love?
Should I fall, should I fly
Without your love?
All I can is only living for you
Breathing for you

What I lose, what I find
Without your love?
What I say, what I hide
Without your love?
What I have in my mind
Without your love?
Tell me what I have to do?
Since I love you

Should I live, should I die
Without your love?
Should I smile, should I cry
Without your love?
Should I fall, should I fly
Without your love?
All I can is only living for you
Breathing for you

2007

Armenia chose their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 using a national final that consisted of two semi-finals and a final, which took place on 25 February 2007. Hayko was selected by the jury to represent Armenia with the song “Anytime You Need”. Although the decision was entirely up to the jury, a televote was held with Hayko being the victor. The song was written and composed by Hayko and Karen Kavaleryan.
Armenia directly qualified to the final in Helsinki on 12 May 2007. In the final, Hayko performed second last following Turkey and preceding Moldova. He finished in 8th place. It can be noted that while Armenia finished one point above Greece in 2006, they this time finished one point below them.

lyrics

Why, baby tell me why
Does someone always say goodbye?
You should never doubt, all I’ll ever do
Is watch over you

I only wanna guard
Every beat of your gentle heart
Look and you will see
You can count on me, depend on me

Anytime you need
Any place you say
Anything indeed
Anyhow, any way

I wanna be your friend
Day by day to the very end
If you ever call crying with the blues
I’m here for you

Anytime you need
Any place you say
Anything indeed
Anyhow, any way

I’ll dry your tears when you cry
And I need no reason why

Time is here tonight,

Come qele, move qele
Instead of watching me

lyrics

Many, many years ago, when I was a little child
Mama told me you should know our world is cruel and wild
But to make your way through cold and heat
Love is all that you need

I believed her every word, more than anything I heard
But I was too scared to lose my fun
I began to cry a lot and she gave me apricots
Kisses of the earth, fruits of the sun

Apricot stone, hidden in my hand
Given back to me from the motherland
Apricot stone, I will drop it down in the frozen ground
Ill just let it make its round

Apricot stone, hidden in my hand
Given back to me from the motherland
Apricot stone

Now I see the Northern stars shining brightly in the storm
And Ive got an avatar of my love to keep me warm
Now Im not afraid of violent winds
They may blow they cant win

May the winter stay away from my harvest night and day
May God bless and keep my cherished fruit
Grow my tree up to the sky, once I waved my home goodbye
I just want to go back to my roots

lyrics

My days and nights are passing
Long hours are running
But we are still fighting
Ay ay ay

The love is still so shining
Why are we denying?
I really don’t know why
Ay ay ay

Come and take my hand now don’t be shy
And let’s try to hold our spirits high

[Chorus] 2x
Boom Boom
Chaka Chaka
Your kiss is like a like a

Boom Boom
Chaka Chaka
Your love is like a like a

I wanna say that one thing is true
I’m in love with you!

[Verse 2] I know that love cannot lie
I wanna give you a new try
So there’s no need to cry
Ay ay ay

And if you want we can fly
High up to the sky-y
Just you and I
Ay ay ay

Come and take my hand now don’t be shy
And let’s try to hold our spirits high

Lyrics

Lonely planet

Who’s the one that starts a war?
Who’s dictating what is less and more?
Who can change the night and day?

Who’s the one with clever face?
That can tell us what is in the space?
Playing games that none can play

Maybe someday we’ll break the wall
Maybe the light will touch us all

Lonely planet, who has done it?
Who can save you? Who can stop it?
Lonely planet, who has done it?
Who can save you? Who can stop it?

Who’s the one that has the right?
Treat us wrong and tell us what is right?
Bringing crowd against the squad

Who has honesty to show?
Who can tell us “I don’t know”?
Who’s the man and who’s the god?

Maybe someday we’ll break the wall
Maybe the light will touch us all

Lonely planet, who has done it?
Who can save you? Who can stop it?
Lonely planet, who has done it?
Who can save you? Who can stop it?

Lonely planet, we have done it
We can save you, we can stop it
Lonely planet, we have done it
We can save you, we can stop it

We can stop it, we can stop it
We can stop it, we can stop it
For the world

Lyrics

You’re all alone, you’re all alone,
No shoulder wants you to lean on,
You thought this world was too cold
And you’ve made up
A whole new world

Don’t cry, don’t cry little bird
Though you are scared and you’re hurt
You’re gonna wake up
It’s only a dream
And why do dreams make people scream

You’re not alone…

What if it’s all in one kiss
That turns all seeds into trees
The strongest wind into breeze
Enter all doors without keys

What if it’s all in one kiss
That turns all seeds into trees
The strongest wind into breeze
What if it’s all in one kiss

You’re not alone…
